I Haven't Got Any Money! Can You Still Help Me?
I can offer the following free advice; your mileage may vary:
Every University has a computer services team (they may be called IT, ICT, Computer Services or something similar). Speak to them and see what they can do for you - be nice, they're busy people! You may have to take your laptop to them to examine it.
Many students have friends who are adept at fixing smaller, day to day problems you may encounter with your computer. Ask around - fellow students are usually happy to help out.
And of course don't forget the hive mind that is Google! Google can be your best friend if you ask the right questions; the chances are good that someone else has been in the same jam and has asked the question online, and received the answer!
Can You Make My Broadband Router Work?
If you've just moved out of halls and rented a house with your friends, you've probably signed up for broadband; it's an essential service, but sometimes it just refuses to co-operate. You're not alone, other students are frustrated by this too.
We'll help you setup the router and connect your laptops and desktops to it so you can share your new broadband connection. And you'd be surprised how many extra little problems get resolved as laptops are offered up for connection to the network - one student had been working with their laptop display on its side for two months!
Will You Collect My Laptop If It Needs Fixing?
If your laptop (or desktop computer) can be fixed in under a couple of hours this can usually be done in your own home. If the work will take longer than this you can arrange to have your computer collected; once the work is done you can arrange to have your computer returned to you at your convenience.
Do I Still Have To Pay If The Problem Can't Be Fixed?
Cogniworks offers a no fix, no fee policy to all Leeds students in higher education. We're confident we can help you - if we can't, that's our problem, not yours, and you won't be asked to pay a penny.
